FULL MOON MADNESS_ Pick up SOSA for a Million!!!

WOULD IT BE N-U-T-S to give SAMMY a MILLION or TWO to GET to 600 HOMERS in CUBBY BLUE ????? - TimmO' ;-P

Source: Sosa would rather retire than 'beg for a spot'

MIAMI -- Sammy Sosa is seriously considering retiring from baseball instead of accepting an offer from the Washington Nationals, a source close to the player told ESPNdeportes.com.

Sosa has not made a decision regarding the contract offer from Washington, which is a non-guaranteed, one-year pact for $500,000.

"Sammy doesn't think of himself as someone who has to beg for a spot on a big league roster," said the source.

Washington's offer is the only one the Dominican slugger and potential Hall of Famer has received this winter.

With 588 career home runs, Sosa is the all-time leader among Latin American players. He had three years of 60 or more home runs between 1998 and 2001 as a Cub, becoming enormously popular in Chicago and throughout baseball.

However, injuries and some bad publicity, including the discovery of a corked bat in 2003, have affected his legacy and market value.

"Sammy wants to get to 600 home runs, but he's not willing to humiliate himself to keep playing. He feels that the lack of interest in his services this winter constitutes a humiliation," added the source.

Although the team has not set a deadline for a decision by Sosa, the Nationals would like to have the situation resolved before pitchers and catchers report to spring training on February 18. Washington originally only offered a minor league contract, with an invitation to spring training.

Sosa is taking his time to mull the decision, consulting with family and friends. Some have encouraged him to continue playing, while others have suggested he leave baseball.

Sosa, 37, was released by the Orioles after a disappointing 2005, when he hit .221 with 14 home runs and 45 RBI in 102 games.

The "Caribbean Bambino" was affected by various injuries last year, when he made $17 millon in the last season of a five-year deal he signed with Chicago in 2002. Baltimore declined a $18 million option for 2006.

The Nationals see Sosa as an insurance policy entering spring training, in case Jose Guillen's shoulder does not heal as quickly as they would like, and also with Alfonso Soriano's apparent refusal to switch from the infield to the outfield.

GoldStar Offers SteveO to MidEast

Gesture Shocks Wicker Park Softball Community

Story by Larry Mills - for The Bunion
Friday, February 10, 2006; Posted: 11:01 a.m. EST (16:01 GMT)

Chicago, Illinois (CNN) -- In a move that has shocked the close-knit Wicker Park softball commnuity, GoldStar Softball management has offered the services of SteveO to the Mideast.

Reliable sources close to GoldStar management say the gesture is ostensibily GoldStar's way of attempting to lessen tensions between Western and Islamic cultures and thereby reduce the threat of global terrorism .

When asked about the assignment, SteveO (currently GoldStar' star pitcher and Ambassador to Strip Clubs) agreed he might be able to offer techniques to help those interested but warned that the unleashing of long held sexual tension might hurtle those not prepared to the precipice of the abyss. "I'm accepting only on the condition I can bring along my "assistants"; they do look middle-eastern-ish" SteveO said.

TEAM- NICE JOB!

You shut down N.W.S.K. by a score of 9-to-3 (or so)...

AND Clem's PHYLLIS'tines came back from 6 runs down to squeak by S.W.A.T. by a 7-to-6 final...

HENCE we move up to TUESDAY night to play THE DOGS (formerly AUGENBLICK lo those many years ago) (Poor Phyllis' gets Pimientas Thursday...)

A "sort-of" factoid someone from Pimientas pointed out- (and that Biggs and I can confirm) that Tuesday has been a tough day for the Dogs this year due to a few of their guys having work scheduling conflicts- but we can't assume that they won't play hooky for the playoffs- but we have as good a chance as anybody so long as we aim for fifteen runs or so on offense- AND walk Marcus EVERY time feasable!

I didn't double-check the starting time so lets call aR.Kqellio Monday to make sure but TRY to arrive VERY EARLY- assume a goofy 6 p.m. start time and try to arrive before then to loosen up (hopefully no T-Ballers are still hoggin' da field!)

- U no hu ! ;-)

P.S. - David Wells stopped by in civvies with his son & daughter during the Phyllis' game (they had gone to the Shedd Aquarium)... If there's A-N-Y way to work him Tuesday night I'll gladly move my ass to 2nd string cheerleader for him at 1st... maybe someone can slide by the fieldhouse to "make copies" of the years score sheets and make sure he didn't "forget" to sign those times he came out with the bad pinkie... ;-)

P.S. - So now who had the best success against the DOGS big gawky pitcher this year... get them up in the order pronto! (not me that's for sure!) I think we lost to them 9-to-1 and somethink like 22-to-8 (but rallied very late) so we might need a little different approach to try and get out in front early and hold it!

-=-=-=-=-

Additionally-

The BEACHWOOD INN utterly stunned the HITMEN with their FIRST WIN of the SEASON!

Yee-haw!!!

Also- LOS GRINGOS were snuffed in EXTRA-INNINGS by THAT'S US...

(but my short-term has started to fade already- correct me if I'm wrong on the teams involved COS' ... could this synaptic deficit of mine have been exacerbated by all that sweet second-hand wafti
g our way over the wrought iron post victory pow-wow out there- that smoky splendor in the grass/with the grass...

Groovie baby... groovie! ;-)

Nice to avoid clashing with these fleshy titans as well!
